Affordable Housing Committee

What is the Affordable Housing Committee?

The Affordable Housing Committee is comprised of elected officials with one member from Commissioner District 1, one member from Commissioner District 2, and one member from Commissioner District 3. The purpose of the committee is to engage with community partners, solicit public input and make housing affordability policy and funding recommendations to the Board of Commissioners for Buncombe County. The Affordable Housing Committee is currently comprised of Chairman Brownie Newman, Vice Chair Amanda Edwards of District 2, and Commissioner Parker Sloan of District 3. Affordable Housing Committee Meeting Details

The Affordable Housing Committee meets on the first Tuesday of every month from 1:00 pm to 2:30 PM at the 30 Valley St meeting room. To view the committee meeting virtually please visit Engage Buncombe. As of January 2023 all meeting materials will be published through Engage Buncombe, all meeting materials prior to January 2023 are archived below. If you would like to be notified via e-mail of when a meeting will occur, and its materials are published, e-mail jake.ekberg@buncombecounty.org to be added to the Affordable Housing Committee e-mail list.

Public Comment

Public comment will be taken in person and via electronic means. Public comment can be provided in advance of the meeting. The following criteria for comment will apply to public comment submitted in advance of the meeting: (1) any public comment must be sent between 8:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. the day before an Affordable Housing Committee Meeting to jake.ekberg@buncombecounty.org or by leaving a message at (828) 250-4834; and (2) must be no more than 350 words. When the meeting begins, it will appear on the Affordable Housing Committee page at engage.buncombecounty.org, the comment feature will be active on the Public Input portal and you can provide information to the committee through the comment section or through voicemail.
