Attention - Moving Notice

The ID Bureau has moved all daily operations regarding public fingerprinting services,
criminal background checks, and all gun permitting processes to 52 Coxe Ave.

While visiting the ID Bureau for gun permitting or fingerprint services, please use the parking spaces marked "reserved" as you will not need to pay to park while visiting the ID Bureau.

An appointment is required for all fingerprint services.
Please call 250-4665 to schedule an appointment as public fingerprint services by appointment only.

Our mission is to support the Criminal Justice/Public Safety community and the residents of Buncombe County through timely and accurate data entry services and complete and precise dissemination of information.



Centralized Data Entry (CDE)

CDE creates and maintains the electronic record (which generates and/or supplements the paper documentation) especially in regard to the master name index, warrants, processes, citations, arrests, detention and pawn records.

ID Division

  • Maintaining a criminal history record which includes but is not limited to the following documents:
    • the arrest sheet
    • the mug-shot (photograph)
    • the criminal fingerprint card
    • the court disposition record and
    • any court ordered item (e.g. dismissals, corrections, amendments, etc)
  • Providing criminal histories for background checks (Buncombe County cases only).
  • Fingerprinting for the general public for purposes of employment, properties, securities, adoption, etc.
    • FEE: $10.00 CASH ONLY
  • The North Carolina Criminal Background Check for Child Care Workers has moved to a new electronic process.

All fingerprinting for Immigration & Naturalization Services (INS) purposes must be done in Charlotte, North Carolina.
