Policy and Planning

We provide systemic planning and coordination for crucial needs in the criminal justice system. We utilizes evidence based methods to identify goals and priorities, develops solutions, and measures results to ensure policies and programs are cost effective, efficient and produce maximum outcomes for the community.

Justice Services Policy and Planning Division is responsible for:

  • coordinate and implement criminal justice system initiatives, policies and programs in partnership with local criminal justice stakeholders to improve efficiency, fairness, and effectiveness of the criminal justice system
  • research best practices and implement innovative approaches consistent with community safety, promote effective alternatives to incarceration, reduce recidivism and reduce the jail population
  • identify, promote and drive application of best practices in criminal justice operations consistent with County goals;
  • engage all partners in the Buncombe County criminal justice system; and
  • develop interventions that divert individuals from the criminal justice system in behavioral health programs.
