Child & Family Services

Buncombe County’s Child and Family Services aims to partner with families and their supports to reduce risk for future maltreatment of children by building on family’s strengths and developing protective factors while also minimizing risky behaviors through trauma-informed interventions, services, supports and resources.

Child Protective Services

N.C. law requires that local county departments of Social Work Services ensure children's safety in their homes. View state policy

Family In-Home Services

Family In-Home Services are legally mandated when child maltreatment has occurred and intervention is necessary to support children safely remaining in the care of their family members. An assigned Family In Home Social Worker partners with families and their supports to identify and connect the family to community services, resources and supports to resolve safety concerns. The services are provided to families with the goal of maintaining the safety of children while strengthening the family’s own capacity to protect and nurture their children.

Our Social Workers are highly trained to serve families with safety issues such as Intimate Partner Violence, Substance Use Disorder, and many other concerns that families face. Family In-Home is dedicated to providing trauma informed care to help maintain children safely in their homes.

Permanency Planning Services

Buncombe County’s Permanency Planning Division provides safe, temporary care for children who have been removed from their home for safety reasons by the court system while also working with parents to address the concerns that led to the children entering care so they can safely reunify.

How You Can Help

There are steps all of us can take to connect with and provide for young people in foster care that are still waiting to be adopted.
