It takes a special person to leave behind your family, friends, and safety to travel into the unknown. Meet the members of Task Force 2, these are some of Buncombe County's bravest deployed to the front lines of the hurricane rescue effort. They are on their to way to Bladen County on Tuesday morning Sept. 18.
The North Carolina Urban Search and Rescue Task Force 2 is made up of personnel from Buncombe County Emergency Management and fire departments from the city and county. This fully trained 16-member team will head out for the next ten days working around the clock in crews of eight. Task Force 2 is fully equipped to take on all sorts of missions and terrain including swift water rescue, mountain wilderness search and rescue, structural collapse, and trench rescue. Task Force 2’s primary response area is the western most counties of NC, but they can be deployed statewide. In 2016, they rescued over 200 survivors from Hurricane Matthew.
We are keeping TF2 in our thoughts as they deploy. We are proud of these community members from Buncombe Emergency Management and Fire Departments from Enka, Jupiter, Skyland, Upper Hominy, Weaverville, and West Buncombe. Stay safe.
