Affordable Parking Program FAQ

Can anyone apply to get a reduced rate parking pass?

No, you must meet the eligibility requirements to apply.

How do I determine who counts as part of my household?

Generally, people count as part of your household if you 1) live together and 2) are related. Roommates who you aren’t related to would not count toward your household size. Contact us and we can help answer any questions about your situation.

How do I determine my monthly income?

Your monthly income is the money that all members of your household receive before taxes each month. Gross wages, salaries, child support, social security, and other benefits should all be added up for you and any other earners in your household. Get in touch with us if you have questions about how to calculate your monthly income.

I don’t live in Buncombe County. Can I still apply to get a pass?

Yes. If you work in downtown Asheville (within about 1 mile from Pack Square) and are under the income limits for household size, then you can apply.

What happens after I submit my application?

Buncombe County has a limited number of spots available, and spots will be allocated on a first come, first served basis. If you are selected, you will receive an email from Preferred Parking (who manages the county’s parking deck) and will be invited to purchase a reduced rate pass at that time.

I applied but wasn’t selected. What now?

If you are not selected for the program, you will be notified that your application has been placed on a waiting list. You will be invited to purchase a reduced rate pass as availability allows. We will be posting the waiting list on our county webpage, and you can use your Application ID to check your place on the list.If you are not selected for the program, you will be notified that your application has been placed on a waiting list. No, passes are non-transferable and may not be sold or traded. Parking passes are intended to be used only by the applicant to the Affordable Parking Program.
