Inaugural Age-Friendly Summit: The Future of Aging

Age Friendly Summit

Join us for the Inaugural Age-Friendly Summit Conference hosted by Age-Friendly Buncombe County!  The Age-Friendly Summit will be held on Thursday, May 23, 2024, from 8:00 am - 4:00 pm at the DoubleTree by Hilton located at 115 Hendersonville Road.  We are pleased to announce that Deerfield Charitable Foundation is our presenting sponsor.

The inaugural theme of the Age-Friendly Summit is the “The Future of Aging”. All of us are aging wherever we are in our journey across the life course.  Aging is Living!  The conference will provide information and resources to older adults, professionals, and those who are involved in supporting individuals across the lifespan.

Buncombe County Commissioner, Amanda Edwards, will start the conference and welcome attendees.  Deerfield Charitable Foundation, a supporting organization of Deerfield Episcopal Retirement Community will follow and present the results of their Community Engagement Needs Assessment identifying the most pressing issues facing older adults in Buncombe County.

Attendees will have their choice of educational sessions.  There will be two tracks of educational sessions, one track for older adults and caregivers, and one track for professionals.  The two tracks are:

  • Keeping Older Adults Safe, Well, and Engaged for older adults and caregivers with sessions on simple home modifications, tips for caregivers and managing stress, four legal documents you need now, and long-term care asset planning and asset protection.
  • An Administrative Look at Aging for professionals with sessions on age-friendly healthcare - AdventHealth, North Carolina Institute of Medicine (NCIOM) Healthy Aging Taskforce recommendations, and All Ages, All Stages NC (AAAS-NC) Initiative.

During the conference, attendees will hear from the Age-Friendly Summit Platinum Sponsors about the wonderful work they are doing in our community to support all of us.

The Age-Friendly Summit will conclude with three mini-presentations about What’s Next in Aging Services featuring the Aging Alliance, Age-Friendly Buncombe County, and the WISH Collaborative.  And a chance to win a gift basket!

The cost to attend the conference is $20.00.  For more information about the details of the conference and registration information, please see the attached flyer.
