Economic Development Overview

Create a robust and sustainable regional economy that builds on our homegrown industries and talent and provides economic mobility for residents.

An important part of Buncombe County’s 2025 strategic plan is to create an environment that attracts new business and promotes the growth of our existing businesses. Paramount to these efforts are increasing high wage jobs in meaningful careers and industries. Another area of focus is boosting capital investments that generate tax revenue and, in return, allow the County to bolster existing programs and services.

To recruit and retain businesses, Buncombe County utilizes numerous tools including economic incentives, customized workforce training, and workforce development programs. These tools are utilized to attract and retain industries for the state, region, and even across the nation. The County seeks to serve as a good steward for taxpayer resources while supporting the growth of a vibrant economy.
