What data is in this Dashboard?

The following data is used in the dashboard and is refreshed at approximately 1 PM each weekday. New data sources may be added.

Lab-Confirmed COVID-19 Cases by Date of Specimen Collection

  • Number of new COVID-19 cases each day by the date the person's specimen was collected.
  • Limitation: These numbers only reflect laboratory-confirmed cases and not all people who have or had COVID-19.

Cumulative Total Number of COVID-19 Cases by Date of Specimen Collection

  • Cumulative total number of COVID-19 cases by the date the person's specimen was collected.
  • Limitation: These numbers only reflect laboratory-confirmed cases and not all people who have or had COVID-19.

Testing performed

  • This shows the number of tests performed and reported to Buncombe County Public Health by date of specimen collection.
  • Limitation: While Buncombe County Public Health believes that most providers are reporting all tests they perform that are sent to labs outside of their office, we cannot ensure that all tests are reported to us.

Why do I get different data from different sources?

There are various sources that are tracking and aggregating coronavirus data. They update at different times and may have different ways of gathering data. This dashboard uses data from Buncombe County Public Health and is the most up to date data that can obtained regarding COVID-19 cases and deaths in Buncombe County. Case and Death data is extracted from the North Carolina Electronic Disease Surveillance System (NCEDSS). Testing data and data from other counties are sourced from the NC Department of Health and Human Services and may be delayed or contain discrepancies. Population data used in calculations are sourced from the NC Office of State Budget and Management (OBSM) and use 2020 estimates.
