Let your creativity soar at your local library this summer as we “Color Our World” together! Our community has been through a lot since Hurricane Helene, but our summer reading theme reminds us that stories and art can always help heal and unite us and enrich our lives. Whether you're finding your next summer read or exploring a new artistic medium, there’s tons to explore at your local libraries.
The 2025 Summer Learning Program runs Tuesday, June 3rd – Saturday, August 30th and is open to everyone ages birth-18. To participate in the program, visit any library location after June 1 to pick up an activity sheet for kids or teens. Complete any ten activities and return your sheet to any branch to receive a free book and a bookmark redeemable for a kiddie scoop of ice cream at any of The Hop’s locations!
"The Hop is so grateful to be able to support Buncombe County Libraries again this Summer,” Greg Garrison, co-owner of The Hop Handcrafted Ice Cream said. “Honestly, we feel like reading is the master key to life, and I can't think of a better way to participate than supporting the work of the libraries. We hope through the partnership, the number of kids and families who visit the area libraries is greater than it has ever been! We also want to give extra special thanks to Pack Friends of the Library for their help with this and for all they do!"
This year, we’re celebrating the end of summer with a Summer Reading Finale on Saturday, August 16 at Oakley/South Asheville from 10 am-2pm. Enjoy fun activities for the whole family, including music, face painting, games, bubbles, activities led by community partners, and so much more! The Hop will serve ice cream for a sweet finish. This end of summer celebration is made entirely possible by the Friends of Pack Library.
Stop by your community branch to pick up a copy of your branch’s summer program calendar. All library programs are free and open to children or teens of all abilities. From bilingual storytellers to printmaking to theater programs, there’s a little something for families of all ages to enjoy. For a complete list of summer program descriptions, check our calendar.
If you have any additional questions, feel free to reach out to Youth Services Manager Megan Northcote via email at megan.northcote@buncombecounty.org. We can’t wait to see you at the library this summer!
