Economic Services Team Receives NCACC Innovation Award

A team from Buncombe County’s Economic Services recently got much-deserved recognition by winning the NCACC Civic Excellence in Innovation Award. The award recognizes innovative county programs that provide cost/resource savings for counties.

The team traveled to Forsyth County last week to receive the award at the NCACC Annual Conference.

Pioneering a Shared Training Hub

The team’s winning project “Pioneering a Shared Training Hub” began as a county initiative that was then shared with other counties. The team worked on creating a SharePoint page housing all training and system materials, tools for casework, and onboarding resources.

“Many county DSS/DHHS in North Carolina do not have a budget for a dedicated training team,” Economic Services Staff Development Manager Heather Ramsey says. “We found ourselves in a unique position to create and share materials that could benefit not only our staff but hundreds of workers across the state.”

As of July 2024, the team has published over 200 courses and shared those materials with nearly 70% of counties across the state.

Included in this project:

Heather Ramsey - Staff Development Manager
Leah Clark - Staff Development Specialist
Christine Rokeby-Jackson - Staff Development Specialist
Tia Beaver - Staff Development Specialist
Tricia Niemczyk - Staff Development Specialist
Alex Carver - Staff Development Specialist
Becca Leadbitter - Staff Development Specialist
Lisa Young - Income Maintenance Resource Specialist
Special mention for Justin Page for his help in creating and continuing to support the site's growth.

“I'm so proud of this idea, my team, and this county's dedication to building community partnerships and showcasing our collaborative spirit,” Heather says.

Join us in congratulating the team for its award-winning work!
