Coming Up: Summer Family Campout at Lake Julian Park

Buncombe County Parks and Recreation’s annual Summer Family Campout will be taking place at Lake Julian Park (37 Lake Julian Road), and will be occurring from Saturday, June 1 through Sunday, June 2. Registration will be open from May 6 through May 24. This event promises a weekend filled with camping fun, nature, and cherished memories as families come together to sleep under the stars.

In a world of modern conveniences, the Summer Family Campout offers a unique opportunity for families to connect to nature while enjoying an age-old pastime. "Celebrating the wonders of nature is best achieved by a night of camping beneath the night sky,” remarked Mac Stanley, Buncombe County Parks and Recreation’s program coordinator. “This event provides an opportunity for all generations to connect with the natural world, and to connect with one another.”

Lake Julian Park, which typically does not allow overnight camping, will open its doors strictly for this event. This campout is specially designed for first-time campers and requires no prior camping experience. Attendees are required to bring their own tents, sleeping bags and camping chairs. Dinner and breakfast will be provided for families. Participants are permitted to bring coolers with snacks, but alcohol is not allowed at this event.

The event will feature exciting activities for all ages. There will be planned outdoor activities, pontoon boat rides, the chance to gather around a traditional campfire to enjoy some s'mores, and more. Register here.
