Buncombe County is honored to highlight some of our EMS team in their own words as we celebrate National Public EMS Week. Thank you for your passion and commitment to keeping our community safe.

Name: Aleah Pfluger

Position: Paramedic

Years working in EMS (for Buncombe and other experience): 9 years with BCEMS

What made you want to work in EMS?
Law enforcement class was full, EMS wasn't. Glad I did EMS over law for sure.

What is your favorite part of the job?
When we get an opportunity to actually help someone and the comradery with my coworkers.

What is a misconception of your job?
That only men do this job.

What would you like the public to know about your job?
That we do more than just drive the ambulance. People just think we only drive them to the hospital like a taxi.... usually, people think firefighters are the only ones who are helpful.
