Employee Spotlight: National Nurses Week - Employee and Family Health

Buncombe County celebrates National Nurses Week, honoring the contributions and hard work that nurses around the country do to ensure the health of the community.

Many County employees may have already had first-person contact with Employee and Family Health nurses through the Employee Clinic, a convenient and economical option for treating acute minor illnesses. Employee and Family nurses work hard to treat ailments and promote overall wellness.

Lynn Rapp, a Family Nurse Practitioner, and Millie Feagin, Practice Manager, are part of the team that makes up the Employee and Family Health clinic.

Lynn, who is amazed that she has been a nurse for 31 years, says the clinic helps employees and their family members with common, simple health issues, and assists and supports them in preventing or reversing health risks or conditions.

The clinic is also an affordable health care option, with a $5 fee per visit for medical services and most medications dispersed on-site are free. Some medications are $6.

Lynn says in her role she has been most happy about watching employees and their family members take charge of and improve their health. She is also honored to work with her team.

“I am proud of our Buncombe County work family, who do great things every day. And I have been happy and privileged to have such outstanding people working with me. It’s fun to work in a setting where we can keep the care in health care, and where people appreciate what we do,” Lynn says.

Lynn keeps a balanced life by enjoying the mountain outdoors, she shares some of her favorite things.

“Sunrises, sunsets, mountains, the woods, fresh air, walks in spring and autumn rains, hiking, paddling, puppies and kittens and babies, friends and family, camping, silliness, shenanigans and tomfoolery, and music of all kinds, especially live,” Lynn says.

Millie highlights that an important feature of the clinic is that it helps employees, and their families stay healthy and places an emphasis on their wellness.

“I am so proud of all the new services Employee and Family Health has to offer along with the continued support and focus on wellness. We are so proud to provide County employees and their families who are active in our health plan with a new care delivery model that focuses on wellness, healing, and overall health,” Millie says.

Lynn also enjoys spending her free time in the outdoors.

“My family loves to go hiking, camping, and exploring all over Western North Carolina. We are avid travelers and are usually planning our next weekend trip or vacation,” Lynn says. “I also recharge through live music by attending concerts, festivals, or listening to local bluegrass around this wonderful area.”
