Volunteer for the HCCBG Advisory Committee!

Do you have a passion to help older adults in Buncombe County?  The Home and Community Care Block Grant (HCCBG) Advisory Committee is recruiting members to serve on this advisory board.  Currently, the Home and Community Care Block Grant (HCCBG) Advisory Committee consists of seven community volunteers appointed by the Buncombe County Board of Commissioners, two Buncombe County Health and Human Services Staff Liaisons and two Land of Sky Area Agency on Aging Staff Liaisons.  There are six vacancies on the HCCBG Advisory Committee.

Susan Schiemer, Chair of the HCCBG Advisory Committee, found out about the Committee through her work on the Regional Aging Advisory Council.  Susan’s previous work as an accountant in Long-Term Care Payment Policy as well as her desire to continue working on behalf of older adults compelled her to serve on the Committee.  The Committee works as a team to make difficult decisions regarding funding and take their fiduciary responsibility very seriously. Susan appreciates all of the work Committee Members put into the Committee and how each Committee Member brings insight from their varied backgrounds.

In addition to dedication and passion for older adults, other skills that may be useful for serving on the HCCBG Advisory Committee include work experience in Aging Services or experience with helping a friend or family member navigate resources for older adults.

If you are interested in serving on the Home and Community Care Block Grant (HCCBG), please fill out an application on the Boards and Commissions Page: Transparency - Boards & Commissions (buncombecounty.org).

Once the application is processed, new Committee Members are appointed by the Buncombe County Board of Commissioners.  We hope you join us in this important work supporting older adults in our community!
