Patrick Johnson, former public health director for Haywood County’s Health and Human Services Department, will serve as the interim Buncombe County Public Health Director while the search for a permanent director is underway.
Patrick brings 36 years of public health nursing and administrative experience to this position and years of infectious disease specialization within the public health discipline. This experience includes 27 years of service in the U.S. Air Force Reserve where he retired as a Colonel in 2013 as the Chief Nurse at the Patrick Air Force Base Medical Wing. He deployed to Iraq with his unit in 2007 to provide medical care for wounded warriors. He holds a Bachelors of Science in Nursing and a Masters in Public Administration from the University of Central Florida.
