Emergency Services Welcomes New Assistant Fire Marshals

After a restructuring process under Buncombe County Emergency Services Director Taylor Jones and County Management at the beginning of fiscal year 2023, the Buncombe County Fire Marshal's Office has returned to full staff and added one new position. “This department has endured unprecedented growth in the County,” says Fire Marshal Kevin Tipton. “In 2016 our office completed 1,562 inspections, and in 2022 we performed 2,684 inspections. Our office is happy to introduce our new Assistant Fire Marshals and welcome them to the Buncombe County organization. We are grateful for their service.

Pictured Left: Asst. Fire Marshal Jerry Wicker – Jerry came to Buncombe County Emergency Services in mid-October from the Black Mountain Fire Department. Jerry resides in Haywood County with his family and brings a 10-year background in the fire service. Jerry has held many positions and was involved in code enforcement for over a year prior to coming to Buncombe County.

Pictured Center: Asst. Fire Marshal Julian Archie – Julian joined Buncombe County Emergency Services on Jan. 9, 2023. He is a native of Delaware who currently resides in northern Buncombe County and has four daughters. His last employer was the Town of Waxhaw Fire Department in Union County, NC. Julian brings 12 years of background in the fire service, code enforcement, and fire investigations. He is also very interested in becoming part of the N.C. Urban Search & Rescue Task Force 2 that is based in Buncombe County.

Pictured Right: Asst. Fire Marshal Jeremy Cabe – A long-time County employee, Jeremy made a switch to Emergency Services in mid-October from Public Safety Communications. Jeremy resides in Woodfin with his wife. He started his career in law enforcement with Buncombe County Sheriff's Office in 2005. He has served as a Dispatcher, Patrol Deputy, and is still a current Reserve Officer. Jeremy also brought a background of architectural experience to his new role.
