Buncombe County WIC Continues Winning Streak With 3rd Consecutive Loving Support Award

The Buncombe County WIC Team was recently awarded the USDA’s Loving Support of Excellence Gold Premier Award for the third time. This WIC program has racked up 9 years of excellence in serving this important population!

The award program was established to recognize local WIC agencies that have provided exemplary breastfeeding promotion and support activities. Notably, the Buncombe County WIC team utilizes the expertise of breastfeeding peer counselors and board certified lactation consultants to provide an amazing level of support to breastfeeding moms and babies in Buncombe.

This award also comes at a time where WIC staff worked hard to assist families with formula shortage through support and education on breastfeeding and breastfeeding alternatives.

Buncombe County Health and Human Services Director, Stoney Blevins, celebrates this recognition, saying, “Our WIC Team, under the leadership of Sarah Bennett, are perennial winners of excellence awards for breastfeeding support. I am proud of them and very thankful for the way they engage mothers with infants to support healthy families.”

The WIC team is very active in community events and tirelessly advocates for the health and wellness of all babies, children and families in Buncombe County. Congratulations to the Buncombe County WIC program for their continued success in serving families in Buncombe County.
