The Asheville-Buncombe Air Quality Agency Board (formerly the WNC Regional Air Quality Agency) is seeking volunteers to serve on an advisory committee. The Board is looking for individuals from a variety of backgrounds, talents, and interests that can provide public input on air quality-related matters.  Individuals with vocations and interests in areas including but not limited to engineering, chemistry, meteorology, environmental advocacy, business and industry, tourism, education, public health, education, and science are encouraged to participate.  High School and college students are also encouraged to participate. The primary role of the committee is to provide assistance to the Agency and Board.  This includes, but is not limited to the following:  researching specific projects and making recommendations to the Board and/or Agency, providing technical information within the expertise of committee members, assisting with reviewing materials to be released to the press or included on the website, drafting editorial letters, helping to gauge public reaction to proposed new regulations and programs, environmental education and outreach, and assisting and promoting the work of the Agency.  The committee meets bi-monthly on the first or fourth Tuesday from 4-5 p.m. Meetings are virtual at this time due to COVID-19.  The Asheville-Buncombe Air Quality Agency is responsible for air quality monitoring, permitting, and enforcement in Asheville and Buncombe County. More information about the Agency is available on their website at: abairquality.org. Those interested in serving on the committee are asked to fill out the application and submit it to Ashley Featherstone at airquality@buncombecounty.org.
