When it snows in Buncombe County, our mountain home looks absolutely amazing. But it can be equally frustrating when you need to get somewhere and the roads are covered in snow and ice. Buncombe County does not have jurisdiction for snow plowing or any other road projects like traffic studies, traffic calming, or traffic signal modifications. That responsibility falls to the County’s six municipalities and the North Carolina Department of Transportation, which controls about 70% of County roads. Contact information for the County’s six municipalities and the DOT can be found below.
Always err on the side of caution if you need to drive in icy conditions. Even if roads are clear, black ice can be difficult to detect and is very dangerous.
