Update: Jan. 4, 2022
Full power is expected to be restored today, so the shelter will close at 10 a.m. Many thanks to Trinity Baptist Church and the Red Cross for mobilizing so quickly.
To support residents who are without power as a result of the inclement weather, the Red Cross is opening a temporary emergency shelter at 7 p.m. on Monday, Jan. 3, at Trinity Baptist Church, 216 Shelburne Road, Asheville. There are at least 2,000 homes without power in the Buncombe County area, and it is estimated that it could be Wednesday before full power is restored. Anyone accessing the shelter must wear a face covering at all times.
