Meet our Outstanding Public Health Nurse: Hayley McPeters

From HHS:

This year marked 100 Years of the Office of Public Health Nursing in NC! Through a competitive award selection process by professionals across N.C., the State Department of Public Health awarded 100 Outstanding Public Health Nurses with awards for exemplary service to their home communities. These public health nurses demonstrate noteworthy evidence of innovation, collaboration, community-centered care, or professionalism in their work setting. Buncombe County HHS is proud to share that 9 of those 100 recipients are Public Health Nurses in Buncombe County!

We want to introduce you to these outstanding nurses!

Meet Hayley McPeters:

Hayley works as a Registered Nurse in the Immunizations and Foreign Travel Clinics and also as an Extended Role Registered Nurse in the Sexually Transmitted Diseases and Breast and Cervical Cancer Screening Programs. This outstanding nurse takes extra steps to make sure patients are made aware of their abnormal test results in the Breast and Cervical Cancer Screen Program by notifying her supervisor, medical director, state consultant, and by planning a consult visit at the patient’s house. During the transition to the electronic health record system, Hayley went above and beyond to provide extra support to coworkers to ensure a smooth transition.

As a public health nurse, she is inspired by knowing that her work contributes to the health and well-being of our community. Public health nursing offers the opportunity to work both in the clinic setting and in the community, which keeps the day to day work interesting.

In her free time, Hayley enjoys traveling, being outside, and hanging out with her husband and their 2 dogs and 1 cat.

Thank you for your service, Hayley!
