Buncombe County Announces New HR Director

After a lengthy and deliberate nationwide search, Buncombe County is pleased to announce Sharon Burke has been selected as HR Director. “Her professional experience coupled with an earnest desire to develop and nurture organizational talent makes her an ideal fit,” notes County Manager Avril Pinder. Her first day on the job is Nov. 18.

Burke joins Buncombe County after accruing extensive experience in the diverse fields of academia, health care, insurance, and government. Specifically, Burke brings an expertise in talent management, staff development, benefits administration, and an eye toward long-term planning. During her various roles as a Chief HR Officer and Director, Burke excelled at developing existing talent while recruiting highly sought-after assets to grow the organization’s human capital management strategy.

She has a focus on growing organizations by creating opportunities for employee engagement and relations while thoughtfully building a culture of strategic talent development and innovation. Burke also has considerable experience with compensation and benefits administration and says, “I am looking forward to joining the HR team, getting to know all of the employees of Buncombe County and becoming an active member of the community.”

Originally from New England, Burke has an MBA and two post-graduate certificates in Human Resources Management and Organizational Communication from Plymouth State University. She is an active member in the Society for Human Resources Management, World at Work, and the Association for Talent Development.
