Special Event to Support BC Foster Children

10 years ago, Leah, a toddler in foster care came to live with Scott Houser & Michelle Walker. Scott and Michele were lucky enough to be able to provide their foster child with everything she needed within a short period of time but they know that it can be challenging to quickly provide all of the items needed to make a foster child feel at home. Basic items like suitcases, clothes, and shoes are in high demand.

To celebrate their 10th year of fostering and adoption and their connection with Leah, they want to give back to this amazing fostering community and celebrate foster and adoptive children and families! Their goal is to establish a locker box of shoes and essential clothing for children in foster care in Buncombe & Henderson County DSS so that Foster Families can have easy, year round access to these items for the foster children in their care.

During an interview with Tammy Jones of Mix 96.5, Scott and Michelle told their story of fostering and adoption. The love and admiration that they have for their daughter, Leah, is part of what drives them to make positive changes in our community. Scott says, “Fostering will change your life and make you a better person. You won’t believe the difference that it will make in your life and in their life.”

On November 9th from 9 am – 5 pm, for every pair of shoes that you purchase, GB Shoes Asheville & Hendersonville will donate a pair of shoes to foster children in our community! Multiple vendors will be participating, Sound Extreme DJs will be playing tunes, and there will be face painting, fairy hair, Batman, and lots of other fun things for kids to enjoy.  Their Hendersonville location will also feature a climbing wall, multiple stations from Incredible Inflatables, food and games for people to enjoy, Sound Extreme and other treats if the weather holds out. To show their appreciation for coming out to the event, they are offering 20% off all shoe purchases on this day.

We hope you will bring your families out and enjoy the celebration and do some good at the same time! This is a real foster family celebration and we hope you can join in the fun.
