During the week of Veterans Day, we are honored to host a discussion with Command Sergeant Major (Ret.) Gretchen Evans. Major Evans served 27 years in the United States Army. She is a Bronze Star recipient along with many other medals, awards and decorations.
She was wounded while serving in Afghanistan in 2006. Overcoming severe injuries she is an advocate for veterans of all eras.
She is on the Board of Directors for America’s VETDOGS and The Guide Dog Foundation. She is an Ambassador and speaker for America’s VETDOGS and No Barriers USA.
She has appeared on the Today Show and CBS Courage in Sports. She has just recently returned from competing in the Eco Challenge, The World’s Toughest Race in Fiji which will air on Prime Video in 2020.
She will be performing in "She Went to War" in November at the Library of Congress. An autobiographical performance by four female veterans, all of whom, in widely varying capacities, experienced significant combat exposure during their terms in the military.
She has authored a book entitled Leading from the Front.
She lives in Asheville with her husband Captain (Ret.) Robert D. Evans, U. S. Navy who is currently the Associate Medical Center Director at the Charles George VA Medical Center, and her hearing service dog Aura.
Program is free and held in our auditorium downstairs. Books will be available for purchase after the discussion, signing to follow.
