Road Closure: Sweeten Creek Road Lane Closures

From Duke Energy:

ASHEVILLE – Duke Energy Progress will conduct power reliability upgrades along Sweeten Creek Road for customers in the South Asheville area beginning Aug. 10.

The company plans to trim and/or remove trees, replace wood poles and upgrade power equipment between Royal Pines Drive and Mills Gap Road along Sweeten Creek Road to improve overall reliability for area customers.

This work will require one lane on Sweeten Creek Road to close Aug. 10-11 as tree and vegetation crews begin work.

Work will continue for up to three weeks, with portions of the mile-and-half-stretch on Sweeten Creek Road closing intermittently as power infrastructure crews set up work zones to complete the reliability work beginning at Royal Pines Drive leading to Mills Gap Road.

The company worked with N.C. Department of Transportation and the work schedule is as follows, weather pending:

Monday-Friday, 9 a.m. – 2:30 p.m., intermittent closures during this time.

Saturday and Sunday, single-lane closure from noon until dusk.

Traffic control will be onsite with flaggers to assist travelers.

Electronic message boards notifying travelers were set up along Sweeten Creek Road between Royal Pines Road and Mills Gap Road to warn travelers of traffic implications.
