BC is piloting a program called NC FAST designed to improve service to individuals seeking assistance. This new technology will help Social Service workers quickly assess client needs to determine if they are eligible for public assistance.
Clients give personal information one time to one worker and staff can use this information to determine their eligibility for a variety of public assistance programs such as Food Assistance and Medicaid.
During the first two months of the program, DSS staff expect longer face-to-face application time as they work with the new technology. However, clients don't have to wait for a face-to-face interview, they can:
- apply online at ePASS.nc.gov and fax, mail or drop off the application at 40 Coxe Avenue in downtown Asheville or
- complete an application over the phone (250-5500). A caseworker will take the information and mail the forms to the client to sign.
For more information about the new NC FAST process, see the flyer below or contact Food and Nutrition Services at 250-5500.
