Can you help us out with our Rod and Reel Loaner program?
Thanks to a partnership between the NC Wildlife Resources Commission and Buncombe County Parks, Greenways and Recreation, rods and reels are available for on-site loan to anglers of all ages. Now we just need volunteers to help us administer the program.
Anglers will register at Owen Park to receive a tackle-loaner identification card that lets them check out a rod and reel for the day. Volunteering would consist of manning a booth to take applications and check the rods, reels and tackle in and out.
The park’s two lakes contain good populations of largemouth bass, crappie, catfish and bluegill. The Swannanoa River flows next to the lakes and provides good trout fishing opportunities.
For more information or to volunteer, contact Jay Nelson at jay.nelson@buncombecounty.org or 250-4260. Owen Park is located at 875 Warren Wilson Road, behind Charles D. Owen Manufacturing Company.
