Law requires that local governments have an approved Hazard Mitigation Plan to be eligible for certain disaster assistance funding.
The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) is the approving authority for such plan. FEMA regulations state once a Hazard Mitigation Plan has been approved it must be updated every five years. Buncombe County and the municipalities therein have drafted an update to the Buncombe County Multi-Jurisdictional Hazard Mitigation Plan.
Public comment will be taken on the draft plan, available below, on Wednesday, August 31, 2011 from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. at the Buncombe County Emergency Operations Center (164 Erwin Hills Road). For more information about this plan or the public hearing, contact Angie Ledford at 250-6605.
