Buncombe County Announces Administration Changes


Buncombe County Government is pleased to announce Margaret Ellis has been named Interim Human Resources Director. She has assumed the post effective immediately, filling the position vacated by retiring Human Resources Director, Lisa Eby who recently announced her impending retirement and will be taking annual leave until her official retirement date of Sept. 1, 2018. Ellis has worked for Buncombe County for 28 years starting out in Special Projects and spending the last 25 in Human Resources. “I am excited to take on this new responsibility and look forward to the opportunity to help transition Buncombe County to the next HR Director,” remarked Ellis.

Interim County Manager George Wood stated that this appointment will last until a new County Manager has the chance to select a new Human Resources Director for the organization. “Human Resources is critical to County functions and we are thankful Margaret is committed to taking on this important responsibility,” noted Wood.

In another administrative change, Buncombe County’s Community Engagement Team will move under Strategic Partnerships. The Strategic Partnerships department includes community investment grants and initiatives related to the County’s priorities in the areas of Affordable Housing, Clean Energy, Diverse Workforce, Early Childhood Education, Justice Resource Support, and Opioid Awareness. “We see Community Engagement as a natural extension of this work and are excited to align efforts toward building a healthy, safe, well-educated, and thriving community,” stated Strategic Partnerships Director Rachael Nygaard.
