Buncombe County Opens New Parking Garage at 40 Coxe Avenue

Let’s Talk Parking

Buncombe County is pleased to announce the opening of a new, 8-story public parking garage located at the corner of Sears Alley and Coxe Avenue, across from the post office. This 24/7/365 parking deck will be open to the public and will add parking for an additional 664 vehicles in downtown, with the goal of ensuring long term parking availability to County staff and clients as well as adding much needed parking to downtown Asheville. The new garage also frees up additional surface lot spaces in the downtown area helping to ease parking issues.

When planning the Buncombe County Health & Human Services Addition at the same location, the Commissioners took a thoughtful approach, planning not only for the County’s growing needs but taking into consideration the community’s need for additional parking as well. The County now has over 1,780 public parking spots available throughout downtown.

To ensure consistent parking signage among all parking locations in downtown Asheville the, the County partnered with the City of Asheville and Explore Asheville Convention & Visitors Bureau. "As our downtown continues to grow and thrive, Buncombe County Government is glad to be able to partner with the City of Asheville, Explore Asheville and others," said Commission Chairman Brownie Newman. "Expanded public parking is important to small businesses, workers, and to local residents and visitors who visit and enjoy our unique and vibrant downtown community."
