Property Taxes Due January 7

The Buncombe County Tax Department wants you to know there are several ways to pay your taxes so you can avoid the long lines that happen between December and Jan. 7.

1) You can pay in person

Visit the Tax Department’s office at 94 Coxe Ave. in downtown Asheville Monday – Friday from 8a.m. to 5p.m. – parking is limited, but available across the street from the entrance.

2) Pay by mail

Use the convenient self-addressed envelope included in your bill.

3) Use a drop box

Place your check or money order in the drop box in front of the Family Justice Center at 35 Woodfin Street in downtown Asheville – or in the wall slot next to the main entrance of the Tax Department at 94 Coxe Ave in downtown Asheville.

4) You can make an electronic payment

You can use the online bill pay found at buncombecounty.org/tax

5) You can pay by credit card over the phone

Call 1-877-690-3729 (enter jurisdiction code 4301 and follow the instructions)

Note – when you pay by a credit card over the phone, there is a convenience fee of $3.95 for a Visa Debit payment, or a 2.35% fee with a credit or non-Visa debit card payment. There is no fee associated with an electronic check.

6) Finally, you can pay using a preauthorized debit program

This program allows you to set up a specified amount to be deducted from your bank account each month.

This method can also be set up to manually deduct from your account each month.

Contact the tax department at 828.250.4910 to get more information on this option, and to get started.

Remember that payments must be received or postmarked by January 7 (to avoid a 2% interest fee). While payment plans are set up by the Tax Department, they must be set up early in order to participate.
If you have misplaced your tax bill or need a receipt, they can be printed online by visiting tax.buncombecounty.org.
