For the first time since 2009, Buncombe County is slightly increasing tipping fees at the Transfer Station and Landfill. Both locations will have an increase of 75-cents per ton and will go into effect on Thursday, Aug. 1. This change will not affect average residents who use the services at both locations; it will only affect large commercial and franchise haulers.
The fees will help offset the County’s new Transfer Station which is set to open in mid-August and will help ease congestion and wait times that the current facility sometimes undergoes. The new Transfer Station will also provide residents with a disposal area that is separate from commercial haulers.
Here’s what commercial and franchise haulers need to know about the new tipping fees:
- Landfill fees: Effective Aug. 1, 2018, the Landfill tipping fee will increase to $43.75 per ton. All trucks, roll-offs, or flatbeds (compacted or otherwise) of solid wastes which contain less than 5 percent by weight or volume of any of the following wastes: corrugated cardboard, untreated wood products suitable for mulching, concrete, cinder blocks, brick, concrete with steel, or any type metals will pay $43.75 per ton at the Landfill.
- Transfer Station fees: Effective Aug. 1, 2018 the Transfer Station tipping fee will increase to $47.75 per ton. All trucks, roll-offs, or flatbed (compacted or otherwise) of solid wastes which contain less than 5 percent by weight or volume of any of the following wastes: corrugated cardboard, untreated wood products suitable for mulching, concrete, cinder blocks, brick, concrete with steel, or any type metals will pay $47.75 per ton at the Transfer Station.
