NC Cooperative Extension: Supporting Local Farmers and Local Food

Many citizens in Buncombe County are concerned about how they can access fresh local food in the current crisis conditions. N.C. Cooperative Extension, Buncombe County Center, would like to offer some guidance on this topic. Please keep in mind that this situation is fast moving, so all information is subject to change. As of March 20, farmers markets will be exempt from closing just like regular grocery stores, though there is the possibility of some shifting to new locations due to closures that affect university and public spaces.

For the most up-to-date information on market news, please check the ASAP Connections website at asapconnections.org. This site is updated regularly with the latest local food,  farm and vendor options for consumers and growers alike, including a new interim Saturday market located on the campus of A-B Tech in Asheville.

N.C. Cooperative Extension, Buncombe County Center, continues to offer technical support to  area farmers alongside our many agricultural partner organizations while our office is closed to the public. Together, we are working diligently to help farmers and customers stay connected, and to ensure farmers can get the resources they need to keep our bountiful and wholesome local food supply readily available to our citizens.
