Congratulations to Joe Ramsey’s Farm in Weaverville for being selected as a NC Century Farm. The Ramsey Farm has been in his family for over 100 years being passed down from the maternal side of Joe Ramsey's family. Historically, a top-regarded tobacco farm and most recently, the property has been used for beef cattle, produce, timber, and industrial hemp. This farm is located in Northern Buncombe County on the edge of the town of Weaverville and Barnardsville. Within the region, this farm was historically known for top-quality tobacco and produce. Regional farms have been sold off at alarming rates to accommodate the recent influx of new residents. We are happy to have Ramsey’s farm earn this acknowledgement of all the hard work it takes to keep a family farm together for over a century.
To be eligible for Century Farm, a farm must have had continuous ownership by a family for 100 years or more. This is a recognition program, there are no financial incentives for being a part of the program, other than being proud of your family’s agricultural heritage when you display your sign and certificate.
