Arrests Made in Attempted IED Detonation & Arson in Weaverville

The Buncombe County Sheriff’s Office, in conjunction with the Asheville Buncombe Arson Task Force, Madison County Sheriff’s Office, Buncombe County Anti-Crime Task Force, investigated an attempted Improvised Explosive Device (IED)  detonation and arson at The Red Oak Crossing store 1318 Jupiter Road.

On November 8, 2014 a pipe bomb and fuel were ignited at the store in an attempt to cause an explosion to divert first responders from an armed robbery that was planned for the McDonalds on Weaver Blvd. Through investigative efforts three suspects were identified and charged:

Aaron Lee Hendrickson, DOB 11/2/1988
David William Gunter, DOB 10/16/1985
Cayla Elaine White, DOB 9/4/1990

All three were charged with Burning personal property, Possession of a Weapon of Mass Destruction and Attempted Armed Robbery.  At this time Hendrickson and White have been arrested and are in the Buncombe County Jail.  Gunter is being held at the Madison County jail on unrelated charges.
