COPS Team Puts Child Support Delinquents on Facebook

A FB page has been established to aid in the arrest of those wanted for delinquent child support. The 17th Community Oriented Problem Solving (COPS) team has started focusing on executing outstanding warrants for non-support.

COPS teams typically work in a particular community for 30 days. They work to identify key issues, and speak with community leaders and residents, so that they can create an action plan. They present their findings and suggestions to the community at the end of the 30 day period. The departure from this usual course of action is due to the excessive amount of non-support warrants that need to be executed.

A Facebook page has been established to aid in the arrest of those wanted for delinquent child support. Do you know the whereabouts of any of these individuals? The Buncombe County Sheriff’s Office requests that the public contact Sgt. Courtney Mumm at 250-4410 if they know the whereabouts of any of the individuals featured on the Child Support Fugitives page, or Asheville-Buncombe Crime Stoppers at 255-5050 if they wish to provide information and remain anonymous.

“The void left by parents who do not pay their child support directly impacts their children in a negative way, and indirectly affects all of us,” Sheriff Duncan stated. “This 30 day COPS team will focus on helping to eliminate that problem.”

For more information regarding the COPS team, please call Natalie Bailey at the Buncombe County Sheriff's Office at 250-4469.
