Celebrate Spring with Free Family Festival on April 6

There’s nothing quite like shaking off winter’s cabin fever and welcoming the warmer days of spring. Celebrate the new season’s arrival around the ponds at Charles D. Owen Park in Swannanoa (875 Warren Wilson Rd.) during Buncombe County Recreation Services’ annual Bounce Into Spring family festival. The FREE festival takes place on Saturday, April 6, from 9 a.m.–noon and is open to children and adults of all ages.

“After a mostly mild winter, February and March delivered some of the coldest temperatures of the season,” said Josh O’Conner, Director of Buncombe County Recreation Services. “What better way to celebrate the joy of spring than with an active day spent outdoors? We’ve designed several play stations to offer something unique for every member of the family.”

Buncombe County Public Libraries’ Swannanoa Branch will be on hand to foster imagination skills. LEAF Community Arts’ teaching artists will guide nature-inspired arts and craft projects. Other play stations include slacklining, soccer shoot out, foam-based bow and arrow, fishing pole casting targets, basketball shot, disc golf, and an agility course. The park also features a playground and picnic tables.

Charles D. Owen Babe Ruth League’s opening day will also take place adjacent to the festival on the park’s baseball fields. League volunteers will operate a concession stand with proceeds benefitting the league’s programs.

Charles D. Owen Park is a dog friendly location (on leash) and parking and bike racks are accessible. Sponsorships are available by contacting Chris Bubenik at chris.bubenik@buncombecounty.org. Interested vendors should contact Lynn Pegg at lynn.pegg@buncombecounty.org.
