On Monday, August 21 starting at 10 am we will be doing a live feed of the eclipse for viewers wishing to witness the incredible event from the comfort of our air conditioned community room. Refreshments will be provided by the Friends of the Fairview Library, and the live feed will last until about 4 pm.

The only safe way to look directly at the uneclipsed or partially eclipsed sun is through special-purpose solar filters, such as “eclipse glasses”.

Anyone within the path of totality can see one of nature’s most awe inspiring sights - a total solar eclipse. This path, where the moon will completely cover the sun, will stretch from Salem, Oregon to Charleston, South Carolina; and includes several communities in Western North Carolina! Observers outside this path will still see a partial solar eclipse where the moon covers part of the sun's disk. In any given location on Earth, a total eclipse happens only once every hundred years or so, making this a once in a lifetime opportunity.
