BCPL Story Time Wins Best of WNC Award

Buncombe County Public Libraries (BCPL) librarians are well known for their creativity and dedication. It’s no surprise they have been recognized by the community they serve with best story time or learning session in this year’s Mountain Xpress Best of WNC awards.

“It’s an honor to have the fantastic work of our talented, passionate Youth Services team recognized as being the best in our community,” says Library Director Jim Blanton. “The work they do is a critical component toward the overall efforts of the County in providing educational opportunities for our children to learn and grow.”

BCPL Youth Services Supervisor Sarah Gransee shares “We are thrilled that the Library has been recognized in the Best of WNC awards! In addition to offering more than 400 virtual story time programs (through our Preschool Outreach Program and via Zoom from our library branches) our Youth Services team provided a constant stream of ways for families to connect and engage throughout the pandemic.”  Throughout the pandemic librarians brainstormed ways to connect with patrons in a new virtual environment with take-home craft activities, reading challenges, drive-in story times, online Dungeons & Dragons, original puppet skits, virtual field trips, and more. “You can see welcoming smiles through the plexiglass and behind the masks, and our community is stronger because of our Youth Services team,” says Gransee.
