As part of the 100 Years of the Office of Public Health Nursing in NC, 100 Distinguished Public Health Nurses in North Carolina were recently announced. Buncombe County HHS is proud to share that 9 of those 100 recipients are Public Health Nurses in Buncombe County! Selected by a review committee of eight professional peers from across the state, they were chosen from a competitive field of public health nurses whose nominations demonstrate noteworthy evidence of Innovation, Collaboration, Community-Centered Care, or Professionalism in their work setting. The selected nurses truly do stand out as leaders in North Carolina’s public health workforce.
Public Health Nurses help to prevent the spread of communicable diseases, offer education on important health topics, conduct regular preparedness activities, promote health equity and inclusion, and use evidence-based practices and research as they seek to improve the health of all people in Buncombe County.
Wendy Young, Sharon Raines, Mary Backlund, Hayley McPeters, Michelle Lee, Cheryl Ramey, Denise Clubb, Susan Creede, and Cindy Runion, all of Buncombe County HHS, were selected as Distinguished Public Health Nurses in North Carolina. Their nominations included examples of going above and beyond to serve our community in the clinic and out in the field.
Buncombe County HHS Director, Stoney Blevins, believes that public health nurses are a crucial part of advancing health, safety, and opportunity in all of our communities. “Our public health nurses are true guardians of the public’s health. They bring strong and varied expertise to our community and demonstrate compassion and dedication in their work every day. To have 9 nurses selected among the 100 most outstanding public health nurses in NC to honor 100 years of public health nursing is a direct reflection of their devotion to a strong, healthy Buncombe County,” says Blevins.
Congratulations to these Distinguished Public Health Nurses! Thank you for your service and commitment to public health in Buncombe County. The recipients will be recognized at the regular meeting of the Board of Commissioners on Tuesday, August 20th and will receive their awards at a September event in Greensboro, N.C.
