Voter registration information
To be eligible for the 2021 elections, you must have resided in the jurisdiction at least 30 days prior to the date of the election. The voter registration deadline is Oct. 8 for new voters. You may mail or register in person by 5 p.m. Photo ID is not required to vote. Voters that did not provide a verifiable ID upon registering will be required to show documentation to verify their current address the first time they present to vote.

From search results page, click on your name, then scroll down to view your information and sample ballot.
Three ways to vote: Absentee by Mail, Early Voting, and Election Day
There are three ways to cast a ballot in the 2021 municipal election. Below you’ll find information on absentee voting, Early Voting, and how to vote on Election Day.
Any North Carolina voter may request an absentee ballot. If you, or someone you know, would like to receive their ballot by mail, here is the information you need. There are two steps, requesting and returning. You may request an absentee ballot until Oct. 26. Requesting an absentee ballot
Registered voters must submit an absentee ballot request form. There are two ways to request an absentee ballot:

After completing, submit the form to our office in person* at 50 Coxe Ave., Asheville 28801 or send by mail to PO Box 7468, Asheville 28802.
*In-person delivery is permitted only by the voter or a near relative.
Absentee request forms must be received no later than Oct. 26, at 5 p.m.
Special Note: Military and overseas voters can access the absentee request form via this online portal.
Returning absentee ballots
Once your 2021 State Absentee Ballot Request Form has been received, an absentee ballot will be mailed to you. Absentee ballots must be postmarked on or before Tuesday, Nov. 2, 2021 and received by Friday, Nov. 5, at 5 p.m. Hand-delivered ballots must be received in our office by Tuesday, Nov.2 at 5 p.m. (delivered by voter or near relative only).
Eligible voters for the municipal election, may vote during the Early Voting period which runs Oct. 14-30. During the early voting period, you may also register in person and then vote under the same-day registration provision. Click here for a complete Early Voting schedule with dates and times.

*The Woodfin and Weaverville locations are only open on Saturday, Oct. 30.
Curbside voting
Another feature Buncombe County Election Services offers is Curbside Voting for those who are unable to go inside due to age or disability. Just pull up to the Curbside Voting sign, and an election worker will come out and help you. Curbside voting is available during Early Voting and on Election Day at all voting locations.
Wait map
During scheduled Early Voting times, we offer a wait map. In real time, it tells you how many voters are in line at our location. The wait map will only be available during Early Voting. Make the most of your visit by checking out the wait map before you head out the door.
Where to vote
On Election Day, polls are open from 6:30 a.m.-7:30 p.m. As long as you are in line by 7:30 p.m., you will have the chance to vote.
You should vote in your assigned precinct on Election Day. If you need help finding your voting location, use the Voter Search tool, enter your first and last name, and then click search. From search results page, click on your name, then scroll down to view your assigned polling location. Another way to find your voting location is to use the Representative Finder and search by your address. Just as Early Voting, curbside voting is available on Election day too.
