Please note: The Buncombe County Tax Office wants you to know that you may prepay your 2018 property taxes; however, it is likely that it will NOT qualify as deductible under the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act Law that was recently enacted since the County does not generate official 2018 tax bills until mid-August.
Also note that:
The county is not permitted to make a refund of a prepayment due to the taxpayer’s subsequent inability to deduct the payment for their 2017 federal income taxes. State law permits refunds only for illegal taxes or clerical errors by the tax office. The County is not permitted to refund prepayments for 2018 taxes.
