Passing of Deputy Billy Anders

On Friday, March 29, 2013 Deputy Billy Dean Anders passed away from a brief illness at Mission Hospital.

Deputy Anders was a native of Buncombe County, the son of Robert Parks Anders and Janet Phillips Anders, and was a veteran of the United States Army. Deputy Anders served at several local law enforcement agencies including the Avery County Sheriff’s Office, Madison County Sheriff’s Office, Yancey County Sheriff’s Office, the Mars Hill College Campus Police Department and the Woodfin Police Department before becoming a Buncombe County Sheriff’s Office reserve deputy in 2003.  Deputy Anders served as a detention officer for two years and a road deputy for the last three years for the Buncombe County Sheriff’s office.

“The loss of Billy Anders will definitely leave a void at the Sheriff’s Office, but not only is it a loss for us, but a loss for the community,” Buncombe County Sheriff Van Duncan stated.

Deputy Anders spent his entire life in service to his community and his country, and his service and commitment to both will be missed.  In addition to his parents, Deputy Anders is survived by his brothers, Bobby Anders (Shannon), Danny Anders, Roger Anders (Sherry Rice); his sister, Connie Carver (Junior), several nieces, nephews and work partner Jennifer Fulmer. Deputy Anders was laid to rest at Metcalf Family Cemetery in Sam’s Gap.
