Great Library Events for the Whole Family in October

The Buncombe County Public Library System is a fantastic resource for our community. We all have our favorite childhood memory going to the library and picking out a book to read in the kid's corner, but libraries today are much more than just books. They sponsor many great activities for all ages and interests at all the branch locations every month. In fact, here are a few such events coming up:

  • Halloween Card Workshop
  • Saturday, October 15 at 11AM
  • West Asheville Library
  • Local crafter Peggy Parpan will host the event where you can make your own Halloween-themed card with stamps, punch creatures, matting, and more. All supplies will be provided. It's perfect for ages 8 - 11.
  • Teen Awesome Group
  • Friday, October 21 at 4PM
  • Weaverville Library
  • It's a great way for teens (6th grade and up) to gather and talk about what types of programs, events, crafts, books, music they want to see at the library. Snacks and drinks will be provided.
  • Ghostly Tales of Western North Carolina
  • Tuesday, October 26 at 6:30PM
  • Swannanoa Library
  • Researchers for the Haunted Asheville Tour Guide will be there to tell you stories passed down through our mountain history of the scary, sad, and eerie spirits haunting our region. For ages 13 and up.
  • Silent Horror Film Night
  • Tuesday, October 25 at 7PM
  • Weaverville Library
  • Film historian Chip Kaufmann will honor Halloween with the presentation of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde followed by the 1925 parody, Dr. Pickle and Mr. Pride. Come enjoy the popcorn and great movie discussions afterward.

Now those were just a few of the events from the county library system. If you want to see the full list, and it's huge, visit buncombecounty.org/library. There is a calendar of events there so you can easily add events to your own calendar with a couple clicks. And just so you know, the more popular these events are, the more events the library will be able to put on for everyone in the future. Call the library system if you have any questions at 828.250.4700.
