Tipping the scales toward improving early childhood education.

County Commissioners Jasmine Beach-Ferrara and Al Whitesides represented the full Board of Commissioners in the official opening of a new Pre-K classroom at the Christine W. Avery Learning Center. This community celebration offered an opportunity to experience first-hand, the impacts of their commitment to expand access to high quality Pre-K and the Early Learning Partnership. The Commissioners set a strategic priority around this goal, knowing that ensuring that every child in Buncombe County has an equal opportunity to thrive during their first 2,000 days includes access to quality early childhood education. Buncombe County funding provided a new classroom space, materials, supplies, and facility up-fitting. The Commissioners supported this collaborative effort in partnership with the Asheville City Schools, the Christine W. Avery Learning Center, Hill Street Baptist Church, and the NC Pre-K Program. The new classroom is a wonderful space full of smiles, fun, and learning, and the children showed their appreciation with a special Valentine for the Commissioners.
