Goal: BCHHS will reduce the number of children entering foster care related to parental substance use disorder
Goal Description: When a child, age 5 or younger, is impacted by both maltreatment and parental substance use, a Sobriety Treatment and Recovery Team (START) Social Worker and Family Mentor work together with the family to maintain the child safely in the home with the parents. If the child is unable to remain safely in the home, the team works to return the child safely to the home as quickly as possible by connecting the family to a START Service Coordinator and intensive SUD resources or working as a team to support the family toward recovery. The goal is to decrease the rate of children coming into foster care related to parental substance use disorder by 45% by July 2025.
