Goal Description: In an effort to be more environmentally conscience and reduce the County's carbon emissions, when appropriate, existing fleet vehicles will be replaced with alternative fuel vehicles. The goal is to have 25% of the total vehicle fleet comprised of alternative fuel vehicles by 2025.

Goal: Increase the number of electronic plan reviews
Goal Description: Implementing electronic plan review and eliminating paper plan submissions is the first step of this department to help reduce deforestation and pollution by reducing paper consumption. In addition to this important environmental benefit it will also provide: financial savings, free up office space now used for storage, instant access to plans, better paper trail for auditing and record retention, improvement of departmental collaboration, protection of documents, and better compatibility with remote working.

Goal: Increase recycling in Buncombe County Local Government Programs
Goal Description: The data compiled about recycling activities are from the BC Solid Waste (local governments programs); municipalities & private sector data (commercial, industrial, private owned transfer station) are not included for lack of reliable data. The recycling rate is calculated by dividing the total waste tons processed through BCSW and the total tons recycled. The recycled items included are scrap tires, yardwaste, white goods and scrap metal, residential/commercial cardboard, concrete/brick; mixed paper, plastic, glass, aluminum cans, TV’s, electronics and household hazardous waste.
