Are You an Artful Dodger? Register for Adult League Dodgeball

Buncombe County’s popular Adult League Dodgeball returns in September at a new Dodge House. Players may register as an individual, small group, or complete team of six or more for $25 each through Monday, Aug. 19. Games will be played at Johnston Elementary School (230 Johnston Blvd. in Asheville) on Thursday nights from 6-8:30 p.m., Sept. 5-Oct. 31 except for Sept. 19.

“Dodgeball is our most popular adult sport across all age groups,” according to Mac Stanley, Buncombe County Recreation Services Athletics Coordinator. “It’s essentially a party on the dodgeball court. While still a great way to stay social, matches are quick, fun, and social.”

Teams are co-ed with no more than six players on the court at one time (three females and three males). Each team plays up to seven matches each week that last five minutes each. The team that wins four matches is declared the winner. Teams will rack up points over the eight weeks of play with the top team winning a trophy at the end. The league uses soft-centered balls – rather than the hard plastic balls of recess legend – to keep hard impacts to a minimum.

Registration fees include eight weeks of play and an official team shirt. They also help offset the cost of independent professional referees and rental of the gym.
