Recreation Services Addresses COVID-19 - Parks, Fields Closed

Updated at 11 a.m. on May 8: As part of Buncombe County's modification of its Stay Home-Stay Safe emergency order to transistion into Phase 1 of easing certain COVID-19 restrictions, additional parks will reopen with limited hours and guidance on May 9. Learn more here.

Updated at 8:30 p.m. on April 30 to reflect reopening of seven river parks and Collier Cove Nature Preserve.

Buncombe County and other local partners are taking measures to prepare for the potential spread of the novel coronavirus, or COVID-19, which includes considering the safety of our park visitors and recreation program participants.

Until further notice:

  • All Buncombe County playgrounds, picnic shelters, restrooms, and some other spaces are closed to the public. Athletic field permits are canceled.
  • All Buncombe County Recreation Services programming and special events are canceled or postponed.
  • All picnic shelter rentals are canceled through July 4 and no new reservations will be accepted. Existing rentals can be rescheduled or issued a 100% credit or refund. Please email parks@buncombecounty.org for assistance.
